The Whistleblower Protection Act (WPA) protects federal employees and applicants from retaliation for making protected disclosures about government wrongdoing. It specifically prohibits personnel actions based on a protected disclosure. These disclosures can include a violation of law, mismanagement, or abuse of authority.

A whistleblower is an employee, former employee, or applicant who reports fraud, waste, abuse, or dangers to public health. Whistleblowers impact our world on a daily basis. They boldly risk their reputations and careers, and even put their lives in jeopardy to report wrongdoing. Whistleblowers have valiantly changed industries and, through their reports, have stopped crimes all over the world.

Whistleblowers seeking support can access various resources, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and legal counsel. The Office of Special Counsel (OSC) protects whistleblowers. The Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) also provides protection for those who are federal employees. Non-profit organizations like the National Whistleblower Center (NWC) offer legal assistance and advocacy. Additionally, resources include the Department of Labor, which has whistleblower protection programs for specific sectors.
